Cm Chord, Going Multi-Dimensional

Today we have Cm in the house.

The notes of this chord are C, Eb, and G.

  • C – Root note
  • Eb – Minor 3rd
  • G – 5th

Together these 3 notes make up the Cm chord.

Focusing on just 3 strings at a time makes it way easier to not only play the chord, but also remember where the notes are located on the guitar neck.

You only need 3 strings to make a basic chord, so why make it difficult or boring to learn music?

The video below shows how to locate the Cm chord in multiple spots up and down the guitar fret-board.

Quick and easy. So grab your guitar and play for 3 minutes each day, or longer as long as you are having fun with it!

In this video I am using all the strings. Here we go multi dimensional. Starting with just the top 3 strings, Low E, A, and D. Then I drop down to the next set of 3 strings on the guitar, A, D, and G, then D, G, and B, and finally the three highest pitched strings, G, B, and E.

In each case, finding the root note, that is C is the first thing to do. On the the next string down find the Eb and down one more string to the 5th of the chord, the G note. Move down to the next set of 3 strings and go again.

Here you can see it on the scaled down circle of 5ths, the guitar fret-board, piano keyboard and the music staff.

Have fun playing and learning all the fret-board positions for the Cm chord.
