Rainbow Chakra Color System for Guitar

Learn guitar by color, even better than paint by number.

Colors make it easy and fun to learn the guitar and remember what you learned.

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Violet – Seven Colors for 7 notes of the scale, – any scale.

Today we show how the rainbow color system works with A Dorian and Asus4.

Scale Degrees and Colors
Red = Root = 1st
Orange = 2nd
Yellow = 3rd (can be major or minor 3rd)
Green = 4th
Blue = 5th
Purple = 6th
Violet = 7th

Color makes it so much easier to see the relationship between the notes and the patterns on the fretboard. You can see how the Red relates to the Blue, or the Yellow to the purple. There are color patterns all over the guitar.

In this video I show how to use the Rainbow Chakra system with the A Dorian scale.

Check out the sequence of colors, letters and numbers. The image displays it beautifully.
The notes of the A Dorian mode are;
A, B, C, D, E, F#, G, A

If you start on the A string of the guitar, you can go right up the scale in order. You come to A again on the 12th fret.

For fun jamming, grab a music app that plays an Asus4 chord. Then randomly play notes from the A Dorian mode, as shown in the picture.

This picture shows the Red and Green magnets at the 12th fret and the Blue Magnet on the 10th.

You can find this wonderful chord on several places of the guitar neck. It is one sweet sounding chord.

Can you find the Red, Green and Blue dots on the fretboard image below?

  • Easy on the brain
  • Easy to Excel

Today our 3 strings are A, D and G.

Practice finding the notes of the Asus4 chord in different spots on the guitar neck. Pick a color from the Rainbow and find a few spots on the fretboard where that note appears in the A Dorian Mode.
