Music apps can help make learning and playing music a lot more fun. Aphelian is a music app for the Ipad. It also means the outermost orbit of a planet.
Make music with planets, orbits and moons! How fun.
This app makes is easy even if you don’t know that much about music. Check out the video below for a quick demo of how it’s done.

Here you can see the 4 little piano keyboards inside the Aphelian app. For each keyboard I dialed in the notes G, B, and D, the 3 notes of the G major chord. Of course you could enter any 3 notes to achieve the triad you are playing with. Or you could just enter in anything and get all experimental. Another fun idea would be to enter just one or two notes of the chord into some or all of the mini keyboards. That way each sound plays part of the chord, and together they create a symphony of the full chord.
There are lots of other music apps available across many platforms. Apps and programs are great for helping us make music and learn music at the same time. They are also awesome for creating jam tracks, that make learning music so much more fun.

The guitar fretboard shows the 3 places where the G major chord can be found using the 3 highest strings on the guitar. The colors match the note names just like the music staff picture.
- Red = the note G
- Yellow = the note B
- Blue = the D note
So grab your guitar and fiddle with these 3 notes up and down the fretboard. Just for 3 minutes, or as long as you are having fun!
