Super Simple Way to Learn Guitar Using Shapes
No complicated music theory, just learn 2 shapes on the guitar, move them around the fretboard and you are jammin!
So in this video, I’ll show you how to create a quick little chord jam using shapes, the magical decoder ring and a couple music apps.
These shapes use 3 strings on the guitar, that’s why we call in “Fun with 3 Strings”
Today we feature the D, G, and B strings. We like to make things as easy as possible, stacking the success deck in our favor.

Diagonal Line – The First Shape
Above is the first shape, simply a diagonal line. Here we have it on the 5th, 6th and 7th frets of the guitar fretboard. Start with your ring finger on the 7th fret of the D string, Then just drop back 1 fret and down one string and again back one fret and down one string to achieve all the notes. Now you have an A major chord in your hand.
Slide it Up – to Get Any Major Chord
The beauty of shapes is that you can move them around on the guitar neck. I you slide this diagonal line up 2 frets you get a B major chord. so this would be a diagonal line between the 7th and 9th frets, using the D, G and B strings.

I call this the volleyball shape. The red dot looks like a volleyball flying thru the air. The blue and yellow dots could be a side view of the net. You can use your own imagination to name these shapes. Or forget about the shapes altogether and just remember where to put your fingers.
This shape gives us a C#m chord when played using the 11th and 9th frets. This shape can also be moved up and down the fretboard to get any minor chord.
