Creative Songwriting Tips – These worked for me

Hey, music lovers! Today, we’re diving into some creative tips that can ignite your songwriting process. Let’s make it fun and engaging!

First up, try this: Write down a plan the night before.

It can be as simple as deciding to write a song the next day. Here’s a fun twist: pick a random inspiration. Open your favorite news app or website and write about the first thing you see. Turn on the TV or radio, or even look at your emails. The idea is to get creative with whatever pops up first. If it doesn’t click, no worries—try something new!

Now, here’s what I did. I planned to go to the park, a perfect place to spark creativity with its sunshine, trees, and fresh air. With my phone in hand, I checked the Huffington Post and saw an article about climate change. Instantly inspired, I began jotting down lyrics on the spot.

Let’s dig into the magic of planning ahead. By setting your intention the night before, your subconscious mind starts working on it while you sleep. Your brain waves in dream state can brew up some fantastic ideas. When you wake up, you’ve got a head start, and you might even get those early morning flashes of creativity.

To make my plan work, I listed what I needed: my laptop, notebook, and guitar. Equipped with these tools, I wrote a few verses. Then, I used another creative tip: phoning a friend. Sharing my progress with her sparked new ideas, helping me to complete several verses that morning.

For the technical side, I used Band-in-a-Box, a classic piece of music software that’s been around since before we could record audio on computers. It’s fantastic for visualizing chord progressions and harmonies.

So, remember these key tips: plan ahead, let your subconscious work its magic, connect with nature, and don’t hesitate to phone a friend.
