 Franklin Academy I and II

Artists in the Schools Programs 2010-2011

10/28/10 for K-3—Doug Berky performs “Gems: The World’s Wisdom Stories”. He uses classic styles of storytelling from many cultures including masks, mime, puppetry and the power of a good story to introduce this collection of wisdom stories from around the world. All people seek to understand the world, to live in peace, to deal justly with one another. These stories of hope, peace, freedom and justice will inspire while introducing students to literature from other cultures including Greece, India, Native America and tales from Europe and South America.

02/08/11 for 2nd grade—-Mad Science will hold a workshop this morning for all 2nd graders entitled Dry Ice Storm. Students will explore the 3 states of matter while they become atoms. They will also build a giant bubbling potion and carbonate plain drinking water; taste a burp and create the same awesome smoke illusions used in the movies. Lastly, they will take a Mad Science Bubble Bath before getting their own thermo color drinking cup!

03/09/11 for K-3—-Anita Burroughs-Price rd singlwill join us with her harp for a “Celtic Celebration”, timed to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day. Her program will include joyous music and fairy tales from Ireland, Scotland and Wales. She is the principal harpist with the North Carolina Symphony since 1986. She holds a Master’s degree from Yale and a diploma from London’s Royal College of Music.

Hello Mrs. Johnson,

Hello Mrs. Johnson,

I hope this note finds you well. Below I have listed the line-up of cultural arts events planned for the FA Middle School Students for the 2010-2011 school year. We are so grateful for the faithful and continued support from the GJCAE as it makes a tremendous difference in the lives of our students. Our goal was to schedule artists from different disciplines so that the students can experience varied forms of art. A press release will be sent to local news papers prior to the arrival of each artist. We hope that you can join us for one or more of these events!
