The Joy of Micro Climates
Is one spot in your yard too hot or sunny? Or maybe too shady at certain times of the year, but not others?
Containers can be moved, during the day to catch more or less sun as meeded. Seasonal light may change as well, or perhaps a small greenhouse is needed in the winter. For those living in cold climates, moving plants indoors is sometimes needed for their survival.
A sprinkler can be set up and moved around as well to maintain proper moisture levels in the soil.
Re-Use Re-Purpose
Containers can be used over and over again as plants come the the end of their lifecycle. Add the old soil and plant to the compost. Fill the container with fresh compost and/or good organic potting soil.
Local Organic Herbs and Plants
You can start with pre-started plants from your local nursurey or Herb Festival. If you are lucky enough to live near Wake Forest, NC, you can check out the annual HerbFest.
The herbs pictured to the left here traveled from HerFest in Wake Forest to St. Petersburg, FL. The plants enjoyed the ride.
Many still flourish, half a year after the trip.
I still have other plants from several years ago, still going strong.
