Franklin Academy’s fourth grade students will host writer in residence Tony Peacock for a three day workshop – Jan. 24-28. Peacock brings a genuine love of our state’s culture, literature and history into every classroom that he visits and he teaches students to appreciate their literary heritage and write their own stories. A national Hollerin’ champion in 1999 and 2006, Tony narrated an award winning documentary, Hollerin’ for Mulberry Street Pictures in 2000. He demonstrates his skill to those students who complete his writing residencies workshops.
This program is supported by a grant from the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County Inc. Additional support is provided by the NC Arts Council, a division of the Dept. of Cultural resources.
This program is also supported by a grant from the Graham Johnson Cultural Arts Endowment (GJCAE) a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose purpose is to develop, promote and coordinate the arts and cultural experiences for the community of Wake Forest as well as North Carolina. GJCAE seeks to foster a sense of inclusiveness within our community, connect our communities and schools and to encourage participation in the arts by all members of the community.
